A child’s healthy future starts with the right care. A young person’s brighter future starts with a safe space to be heard.
In Pangani District, Tanga Region, Amref Health Africa Tanzania, the Embassy of Ireland and the Government of Tanzania inaugurated a Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre, a Youth-Friendly Service Unit, and climate-smart infrastructure, including a solar photovoltaic energy system and a rainwater harvesting system, at Pangani District Hospital.
Her Excellency Nicola Brennan, Ambassador of Ireland to Tanzania, said: “What matters most is not just having a beautiful building, but what happens inside it. Through this centre, we have an opportunity to transform the lives of babies and children by ensuring they receive the nutrition and care they need to grow, develop intellectually and become productive members of their communities. We are proud to support this work through our partnership with Amreftanzania , the Pangani District Council and the hospital leadership.”
The Ambassador also highlighted the importance of safe spaces where young people can openly discuss their challenges, access peer support and feel comfortable seeking help.
Pangani District Commissioner, Hon. Mwanaidi Rajabu, appreciated the investment and called for continued government support to sustain the facilities.
“We appreciate this investment in the health of our community and call for continued government support to ensure these services benefit our children and young people for years to come.”
Dr. Florence Temu, Country Director of Amref Health Africa Tanzania, said:
“Together with government and our partners, we are strengthening health services to give every child and young person a healthier future.”
Through the Afya Himilivu Project, funded by the Ireland in Tanzania, Amref continues working with government, health workers and communities to build stronger, more resilient health systems.
